One of my creative resolutions for this year is to think about how to introduce more scenes into my work. I am very comfortable with drawing characters, but am keen to explore how to create the world in which they exist.
For Christmas I was gifted (thank you John and Sarah) this Bruno Munari and Giovanni Belgrano game. The game consists of lots of transparent tiles with different images on that you layer over each other to make different pictures and scenes. Although this is definitely aimed at children it is proving very helpful in my practice. I’ve been having a great time layering up the images, and have started to draw some of my own tiles to add to the game. For now I’ve started adding my drawings in on paper to see how they sit with the other images, and let me tell you, I’ve had a great time.
