We were searching for a nice cold shandy on the way home from a camping trip but instead found the UK’s largest (I think it did used to be the world’s but now the largest is in China,) teapot collection.
I never knew there to be such a variety of teapots, ranging from decorated practical ones to some that seemed so far away from being an actual teapot it was astounding.
I love that some of the characters lend themselves to being a vessel and others don’t at all, and they really are shoehorned into being a teapot. This was almost a week ago and I can’t stop thinking about them all.
Here are my absolute highlights (I actually have more but it made the newsletter to long to send)
All of these teapots got me thinking about Ed Cheverton’s wonderful teapot and watering can drawings and just how much you can do within the small rules of creating a teapot. You must have a handle, spout and a lid but from there on out it’s pretty much a free for all.
This visit has really opened my eyes to the world of teapots and it’s too much to fit into one newsletter. So get ready for a lot more teapot chat.
Ready!! This collection is.. beyond words great. So happy to glimpse a twin to the cheerful elephant I found at a junk stall in Chesterfield years ago. Mine cracked, sadly - nice to be reminded of it.
